Buddhist News of Ven. Thich Chan Tinh
A Day with Vietnamese Buddhists during the Retreat in San Jose City, California, United States
Update: 24/10/2016
On Oct 22, 2016, the Venerable Thich Chan Tinh spent a whole day with the Vietnamese Buddhists, on the occasion of the Two- Day Retreat at the YB High School (Yerba Buena High School), San Jose, United States.
In the morning session, the Venerable guided the etiquette for Buddhist and how to perform walking recitation to the participants.
In the afternoon, the mass practiced the walking recitation before the Dharma talk. In which, the Venerable Thich Chan Tinh shared about “Five Subjects for Frequent Recollection†for Buddhists as following:
* I am of the nature to age, I have not gone beyond ageing.
* I am of the nature to sicken, I have not gone beyond sickness
* I am of the nature to die, I have not gone beyond dying.
* All that is mine, beloved and pleasing, will become otherwise, will become separated from me.
* I am the owner of my kamma, heir to my kamma, born of my kamma, related to my kamma, abide supported by my kamma.Whatever kamma I shall do, for good or for ill, of that I will be the heir.
According to the Venerable, the practitioners should have the knowledge and orientation to plan for their after-lives, such as practicing Five Precepts for the human realm with good merits, practicing the ten wholesomeness for the God realm … Especially those who would like to be born spontaneously in Amitabha Buddha’s Land should :
* Perform filial piety to parents and teachers, non-killing, practice the ten wholesomeness
* Take refuge in Triratna, perform morality with relevant precepts,
* Awaken the thought of enlightenment, strongly believe in the cause and effect rule, study sutras, and support other practitioners.
These are also the meaning of the slogan: “Good for both secular life and Pathâ€, helping the practitioners go smoothly on the way to the Path of liberation with least obstacles
The first day of the retreat ended in the joys of all.
