Update: 08/01/2017
Sunday morning on Jan. 08, 2017 (Dec, 11 Year of Monkey), Dien Quang Pagoda organized a closing ceremony for practicing and Buddha activities at Amitabha Buddha samsara for the year of 2016
This year-end ceremony was a chance for all of the leaders and the Retreat to look back together practice process and the Buddha activities in 2016 so that they can plan a better direction for the operation in 2017 and also to build a better Bodhi mandala.
To witness the ceremony, Ven. Thich Chan Tinh was on behalf of the monks to share some words. First of all, he praised the practical spirit of the Buddhists, as well as the Dharma spirit of the Venerable Abbot. The activities in the past year of the entire mass had complied with the Buddha's teachings which is towards the path of compassion and wisdom. While the Buddha was alive, pagodas were also called viharas where Buddha's children learning the teachings and spreading the Dharma. The value of pagodas is where to return for being good practiced,to transform body and mind in the spirit of compassion and wisdom. However, nowadays, many pagodas only focus on ritual rather than teaching and organizing retreats. That conception invisibly turns Buddhism into theocratic religion and religion of the deceased. Therefore, we have to obviously be aware of the value and the role of the pagodas. Pagodas are places where to learn and practice Buddha's teachings.
The Closing Ceremony is the chance to look back the past year and to navigate the future. But for those practitioners, the summary is not only done at the new year's time, it's what you should do at every minute and it's also to contemplate ourselves. Always review every words, review your action and your mind to quickly complete everyday, otherwise the more you practice, the more ego you grow.
Big temples are to propagate beings
Big temples should not let the "ego" grow.
At the end of the word, the Ven. wished the Buddhists to always practice diligently. Not only practice for yourself, but also encourage your family, your siblings and your friends to come to the temples, taking Three Refuges and practice Buddha's teachings. If each individual knows Dharma, families will be happy, and the country will be peaceful and prosperous.
Also at the ceremony, the Buddhists had offered their singing voice as a respectful tribute to their teachers and the mass.
