On the seventh day of the Retreat of May 10th, 2026, Senior Thích Viên Trí, Member of the Executive Committee, Head of Board cum Chief Secretary of the VBS's Central Buddhist Education Board, Deputy President of Vietnam Buddhist University in HCMC had a dharma talk named "Liberation with every step".

The root of suffering lies in the four types of attachment that we often cling to, as the Senior pointed out: attachment to sensations; attachment to preconception; attachment to precepts; and attachment to the ego. Emphasizing the cultivation is practical in the present moment, leading to peace and liberation in each wise step, the preacher reminded Buddhists to strive to cultivate the Four Immeasurable Minds by initiating loving-kindness (counteracting anger), nurturing compassion (counteracting cruelty), increasing joy (counteracting selfishness and envy), and practicing equanimity (counteracting greed). Among these, letting go is the crucial driving force for all progress in spiritual life, because letting go a little brings happiness, while holding on a little brings suffering. Following this, the Monk quoted a Zen parallel imbued with the philosophy of abandoning and patience from the Late Great Most Thich Thien Sieu:

“A little bit of anger at first, a little bit of greed secondly;

This whole life shall become unpeaceful with much suffering.

By hundred actions from kindness, by thousand actions from patience;

A carefree heart is true happiness.”
