Practitioners often wonder why we are not at peace, or contentment? The underlying cause is because we have not yet seen the impermanent, suffering, and non-ego of five aggregates, so we are still attached and are greedy, angry, and ignorant. A good lay person must know to recognize the body and mind, regularly contemplate five aggregates to clearly see impermanence, suffering, and non-self and let go of attachment. He practices to have a gentle mind, nurturing five unassuming virtues: modesty, humility, courteousness, respect, humbleness; at the same time practicing two "skills", such as skillfully examining one self’s faults and skillfully protecting one self’s senses. At the same time, the lay person practices four immeasurable love, compassion, joy, and equanimity to expand loving-kindness, nurture wisdom, and peace right in his or her home life.
