Five Hundred Prostrations in Celebration of the Leaving-Home Day of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara
Update: 03/11/2026
On the fifteenth day of each lunar month, lay Buddhists often practice lighting incense, chanting sutras, reciting the Buddha’s name, and eating vegetarian meals. This lunar September 15th, Hoang Phap Pagoda will organize the "Five Hundred Prostrations" ritual to commemorate Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara’s Leaving-Home Day. This event will take place for five consecutive days, from October 24 to October 28, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM daily.
At 6:00 PM, the Sangha and Buddhists from all over will join in paying homage to the 500 names of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.
Performing these prostrations helps practitioners find inner tranquility amidst the complexities of daily life. Through this practice, each attendee can return to their pure, original mind—awakening the compassion and tolerance within. It is essential for Buddhists to hold a proper understanding of this homage: the practice aims to cultivate sincere faith in the Three Jewels, foster compassion and altruism, and follow the virtuous example of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.
