One- day Retreat at Giai Lam Pagoda - Ha Tinh
Update: 12/09/2022
On Sep. 11th, 2022, good men and believing women in Ky Anh, Cam Xuyen, Thanh Ha districts and Ha Tinh city areas gathered at Giai Lam Pagoda (belonging to Hoang Phap pagoda) attended a one-day Buddhist recitation practice.
At 8:00 a.m., the Buddhists came to the main hall to review the Buddhist demeanor by the guidance of monks. Next, the audience listened to a dharma talk from Junior Thich Tam Luc, Head of the Organizers. By the teachings of the Buddha, the monk shared the story of the rich man having four wives as follows:
-The first wife represents our body. This body is treasured by everyone in feeding it deliciously, dressing well, staying in luxury, traveling, and serving the body absolutely, but when the body dies, it has to be left behind. This body is very ungrateful to all of us without any gratitude. Sometimes because of it, we create sin to be damned, suffering.
- The second one is money and possessions. Money and wealth are hard to find and accumulate. One doesn't dare to eat, doesn't dare to wear, or give to anyone, but when dying, one has to leave it to others. "If you die, I will have another husband." Gold and silver are accumulated from money, and silver in Vietnamese means 'ungrateful', so many people have suffered because of money.
- The third wife means relatives and family. These people also love, care, and help for all of us. When a loved one dies, they are also saddened, moved, and heartbroken; however, after seeing off to the dead ‘s final resting place, and returning home, they will forget for five or three days later.
- The fourth woman is the human mind, or perception in each individual. Those are a human good - bad actions, doings but one never notices. These never disappear, and follow us like a shadow. When sowing causes, one has to suffer retributions, when doing well, we have good results; or doing evil must bear bad results. Surely, it is true.
Moreover, he also reminded the mass to choose for themselves the method of practice that is suitable for the situation, time, truth. We need to consider whether the temple, the abbot who guides the practice is suitable for us or not. Thereby having a correct view of the way, will help us to advance on the path of practice.
After the Dharma talk, the practitioners joined the Buddha recitation session.
In the afternoon, the program continued the Buddha recitation session.
Before leaving, the Buddhists received a dharma book named "Lessons of Buddhists", which was composed by the Most Master of Hoang Phap pagoda.
