Periodic repentance ceremony at Suoi Phap Pagoda
Update: 29/07/2022
On July 28th, 2022 (June 30th, Year of the Tiger) good men and believing women returned to Suoi Phap Pagoda to attend the periodic penance rite.
Before the rite, Junior Thich Tam Huong, Abbot of Suoi Phap Pagoda had a dharma talk titled the meaning of offering flowers, fruits, incense, and candles to the Three Jewels.
The Venerable pointed out that going to the temple to pray for peacefulness for the family is the cultural beauty of Buddhists. On a free day, Buddha and Bodhisattva 's Birthday, Buddhists come to the temple to offer flowers, fruits, incense, and candles to Three Jewels, ancestors and grandparents, but some of whom do not yet understand the meaning of this. The monk explained, offering flowers to Buddha means the following: flowers represent freshness, beauty and impermanence (withering); Thus, making offering to the Buddha silently reminds us to live a life as beautiful as flowers, life has the meaning of benefiting others, it also reminds us to think about the impermanence of human life, try to use practice. Next, the offering is fruit. Fruit also symbolizes the meaning of cause and effect, offering fruit to Buddha, ancestors silently reminding us to believe deeply in cause and effect and diligently sow good deeds. Next, the offering is incense. Incense will give fragrancy, this is only for the ethics of virtuous people who keep the pure precepts, so by burning incense to the Buddha, ancestors silently remind us to live a virtuous life, keep precepts pure. Like when burning incense, the fragrance spreads all over. Last, offering is candles, they represent light, light can eliminate darkness; Thus, offering candles to Buddha, ancestors have the hidden meaning of reminding us to live an enlightened and wise life, think ahead and believe in cause and effect to believe in ourselves, and believe in the Three Jewels.
