Repentance ceremony (June 14th, year of the Horse) | Hoang Phap pagoda.
Update: 27/07/2026
The repentance ceremony at Hoang Phap Pagoda was attended by a large number of male and female Buddhists at 18:00 on Monday, July 27th, 2026. Before the ritual, Junior Ven. Thich Tam Tri, as the monks of Hoang Phap pagoda, preached the dharma to all attendees.
Buddhists need to have a correct understanding of the truth: “There is an afterlife, there are various kinds of rebirths, and good and evil deeds have consequences” (Digha Nikaya, the Sutta of Pāyāsi), a statement emphasized by the monk. This is because as ordinary human beings, we are very “prone to do evil, prone to harm ourselves,” incurring negative karma in this life and the next, causing us to endlessly wander in the cycle of birth and death.
Therefore, he advised his listeners to accumulate merit and cultivate wisdom as provisions to achieve peace and liberation. Furthermore, it is a journey of cultivating the ten virtuous deeds, restraining the six senses, and living mindfully. Thanks to this, the body and mind are liberated from the bonds of life, returning to nurture the inner self with the sublime Dharma. As reflected in the verses he shared with the listeners:
Whether ordained or still a layperson,
I vow to follow the Compassionate Father, Shakyamuni Buddha.
With precepts, concentration, and wisdom,
I shall wholeheartedly practice the Noble Dharma.
Less heedlessness, less distraction, less restless wandering;
Taking wisdom as the guiding light,
I return to my true nature—vast, empty, and serene.
The repentance ceremony closed in the participants’ joy.
