Update: 16/04/2026
The repentance ceremony at Hoang Phap Pagoda was attended by a large number of male and female Buddhists, devotees on April 16th, 2026 (Feb. 29th, LC). The Abbot of Hoang Phap pagoda, Junior Thich Tam Truong had a dharma talk titled “The sutra meaning of the eight awakening of great people” to the attendees before the ritual.
The monk pointed out the importance of the Dharma for both monks and lay people. Each verse of the sutra is a guiding light, capable of leading Buddhist disciples to perfect their character, morality, and noble virtues. The Abbot explained each teaching of the Buddha in "The Sutra of Eight Awakenings of Great People" helping Buddhists understand the profound teachings hidden beneath each word, also helping listeners understand the afflictions and suffering arising from their own three karma (body, speech, and mind). Therefore, listeners learned how to transform themselves by practicing mindfulness, abandoning evil and doing good, living in harmony, diligently cultivating precepts, concentration, and wisdom to attain peace and happiness in this life. Next, the mass began the repentance ceremony of reciting the Buddhas' great names.
Last, the pagoda prepared cups of sweet soup to offer to the attendees. The repentance ceremony closed in the participants’ joy.
