Repentance ceremony on March 30th, Year of the Horse
Update: 17/05/2026
Before the ritual, the Monks of Hoang Phap pagoda, Junior Thích Tâm Điển had a dharma talk titled “The Buddha’s Life Journey” to male and female Buddhists in the evening of May 16th, 2026 (March 30th, LC).
“One individual, mendicants, arises in the world for the welfare and happiness of the people, out of sympathy for the world, for the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans. What one individual? The Realized One, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha. (The Chapter One Dharma, Sutra of One Individual, Excerpt from the Anguttara Nikaya).
The monk lectured on the life and vows of the Buddha Shakyamuni during the Vesak celebration. From the Buddha’s life, we can further have pure faith in the Three Jewels, maintaining an unwavering and serene mind amidst worldly suffering just as the Buddha Himself experienced. Therefore, the Junior hoped each person would cultivate their own path of practice, their own attitude, and their own correct understanding. Because practitioners need to "recite the Buddha's name, imitate the Buddha's example " and boldly practice virtuous deeds according to their own abilities in the spirit of "self-benefit and benefiting others" to achieve success in our practice. The Vesak celebration also aims to remind us of the laws governing the universe – Formation, existence, decay, and destruction – so that we may remain content in the face of the birth and death cycle.
Last, the pagoda prepared cups of sweet soup to offer to the attendees. The repentance ceremony closed in the participants’ joy.
