Repentance ceremony on Nov. 30th, Year of the Snake

On Jan. 18th, 2026 (Nov. 30th, Year of the Snake), good men and believing women inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend the periodical penitential ceremony.

The monks of Hoang Phap pagoda, Junior Thich Tam Thien had a dharma talk named "Applying the Lotus Sutra to daily life" to share with Buddhists before the rite.

 

Based on the Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva twenty-fifth chapter from the Lotus Sutra, the monk clearly explained the supreme virtues of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, who is a "Fearless Giver." Out of compassion for sentient beings, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva manifests in the Saha world to save and liberate beings from dangerous calamities and fears, bestowing fearlessness and providing means to cultivate virtuous conduct according to each person's capacity. The twelve great vows of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva are the steadfast vessel, the refreshing nectar of salvation for sentient beings in this defiled world. By reverently believing in these supreme vows, our loving-kindness and compassion grow, enabling us to share and embrace the suffering of those in need. This is how we follow the path of the Bodhisattvas.

 

After the Dharma talk, the mass entered the penitential ritual as usual.
