The 4th Three-Jewel Refuge Ceremony of 2026 – Hoang Phap Pagoda.
Update: 04/10/2026
After completing registration and receiving their ID badges, participants gathered in the Dharma Hall to learn essential Buddhist demeanor, including how to clasp hands in reverence, greet, prostrate, and walk while chanting the Buddha’s name.
Following this, Junior Thích Tâm Dược, a monk from Hoang Phap Pagoda, delivered a Dharma talk entitled "8 Great Benefits of Taking the Three Refuges and Five Precepts." Through his teaching, followers gained a clearer understanding of the Refuge Ceremony's significance, the meaning of their Dharma names, the practice of repentance, about the Preceptor and guiding teacher before officially becoming Buddhists.
At 2:00 p.m., following a formal invitation to the Venerable Monks, the ceremony for transmitting the Three Refuges and Five Precepts took place in a solemn atmosphere under the witness of the Sangha.
Afterward, Junior Thích Tâm Trường, Abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda, explained the significance of the Three Jewels and the benefits of the Five Precepts for lay practitioners. He emphasized that Buddhists must maintain unwavering faith in the Three Jewels—the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. He noted that in a world filled with the five defilements, one’s faith can easily be shaken by life circumstances, potentially clouding pure devotion. For over 2,500 years, the radiant light of the Buddha-Dharma has continuously dispelled the dark veil of ignorance, guiding practitioners toward liberation from life’s suffering and the attainment of inner peace.
Taking refuge in the Three Jewels means placing one’s trust in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. By receiving the Three Refuges and observing the Five Precepts—refraining from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and consuming intoxicants—lay Buddhists learn to exercise mindfulness and restraint in their every thought, word, and deed.
The 4th Three-Jewel Refuge Ceremony concluded in an atmosphere of shared joy. Before departing, all newly Buddhists received their Certificates of Refuge along with Dharma books as gifts from the Organizers.
