The Buddha Birthday's Great Ceremony 2026, Buddhist calendar 2570 at Dong Cao Pagoda, Thanh Hoa

On May 24th, 2026 thousands of Buddhists returned to Dong Cao Pagoda in Thanh Hoa (belonging to Hoang Phap pagoda’s sect) to attend the Great ceremony of Buddha Birthday 2026, Buddhist calendar 2570.

  All participants solemnly queued in two lines welcoming venerable monks and nuns to the main hall at 9h a.m. The ceremony was witnessed, present of Junior Thich Tam Hung, Abbot of Dong Cao pagoda, Head of the Organizers; Junior Thich Nguyen Hiep, standing Member of Office Manager of Director Board (DB) of VietNam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) of Thanh Hoa province, Abbot of Kim Lien pagoda in Thanh Hoa province; Junior Thich Tam Due, Abbot of Bon pagoda in Nghe An province; Junior Thich Tam Hoang, Junior Thich Dao Tin as monks of Hoang Phap pagoda in HCMC; Junior Thich Minh Phuoc, Abbot of Sung Quang pagoda; Nun Thich Nu Thanh Thuy – Vice Secretary of Nga Son district 's Head Department of VBS, Abbot of Kim Thanh pagoda in Thanh Hoa; Nun Thich Nu Thanh Hoi, Abbot of Am Loc pagoda (Thanh Hoa); Nun Thich Nu Chon Hoa, Nun Thich Nu Dieu Minh as Nuns of Yen Ninh pagoda in Thanh Hoa.

 

Beginning the ceremony, the mass recited the Buddha name, sang the Buddhism anthem, and stayed silent for a minute to remember the souls' holy sacrifice for Buddhism, soldiers sacrificing for humankind. Then, members of the Youth Club of Dong Cao pagoda offered the items to the Buddha and the Sangha.

 

On behalf of the Sangha, Junior Thich Nghuyen Hiep proclaimed a Buddha’s Birthday celebration message 2570 of Dharma Lord of VBS.

 

On behalf of the Organizers, Junior Thich Tam Hung encouraged Buddhists to actively respond and spread the spirit of compassion, wisdom, and love of Buddhism in the 2026 Buddha's Birthday. In our best ability, Buddhists display Buddhist flags and create Lumbini gardens at our homes, so that we, our families, and society can rejoice in the happiness of welcoming the Buddha's birth. Thanks to this beautiful act, each Buddhist's faith in the Three Jewels is further strengthened, and above all, we cultivate our understanding, practice, and application of the Buddha's teachings in our daily living—a practical way to show gratitude to the Buddhas and Patriarchs.

 

The ceremony closed after the Birthday Celebrating ritual and newborn Buddha statue's bathing and offering to the Sangha.
