“Grateful to heaven, earth, and human beings,
Deeply engraving in the heart the gratitude to parents.”
(Most Venerable Thich Chan Tinh)
On the morning of August 27, 2026 (the 15th day of the 7th lunar month), tens of thousands of Buddhists gathered at Hoang Phap Pagoda to attend the 2026 Great Ullambana Ceremony.
At exactly 9:00 am, the resounding resonance of the Prajna bell and drum welcomed the Most and Monks as they arrived to officially open the ceremony, affirming that Ullambana is a shared festival honoring the profound spirit of gratitude and repayment according to the Buddha's teaching: "The ultimate good is none other than filial piety."
Following MC Quynh Thy's presentation on the significance of pinning roses, Miss Universe Vietnam Ngoc Chau together with the rose-pinning team solemnly pinned yellow roses onto the saffron robes of the Monks and the attendees. Next, the assembly observed a minute of remembrance to pay tribute to the Three Jewels, masters and teachers, the birth and upbringing by parents, the debt to the nation and all living beings, as well as the sacrifices of heroic martyrs.
Following the moment of remembrance, Miss Earth Phuong Khanh, representing the Buddhist devotees, offered words for the sacred robe offering. Junior Thich Tam Truong – Abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda and Head of the Organizers – joyously accepted the offerings and delivered a Dharma talk on the spirit of gratitude and repayment among the Buddha's disciples, encouraging Buddhists to guide their parents to take refuge in the Three Jewels to fulfill their filial duties. Afterward, the Monks and the assembly solemnly offered incense to the Buddha, officially performing the 2026 Ullambana ceremony.
The program was movingly enriched with musical performances dedicated to filial piety by singers Sy Luan and Thuy Trang, alongside traditional instrument artist Van Anh.
The 2026 Great Ullambana Filial Piety Festival at Hoang Phap Pagoda concluded with complete success and joy for all participants.
