The Repentance ceremony on May 29th, the Year of the Horse.
Update: 14/07/2026
On Monday, July 13th, 2026 (May 29th, Lunar calendar),lay Buddhists inside and outside HCMC attended a regular penitential rite. Junior Thich Tam Cung, a monk of Hoang Phap Pagoda, had a dharma talk entitled "The bound buffalo hates the one that is free to graze" before the rite.
The theme "The bound buffalo hates the one that is free to graze" is based on Sakka's Questions - A God Consults the Buddha (Sakkapañha Sutta). The Junior analyzed two unwholesome mental states: envy and stinginess – the causes of human dissatisfaction with the success and happiness of others, and the constant bondage to competition and selfishness. Drawing from the Buddha's teachings, he encouraged practitioners to cultivate joyful acceptance, let go of attachments, transform afflictions, and nurture altruistic living through the practice of the Noble Eightfold Path, leading to peace for oneself and benefit for all.
