Visiting Monastery and Pagodas in San Jose - United States

On Oct 21, 2016, the Venerable Thich Chan Tinh visited the monastery and pagodas in San Jose, North California, US.
In the morning, the Venerable visited his teacher, Master\r\nMonk Thich Thang Hoan who taught him when he was a trainee monk.

The secular name of Master Monk Thich Thang Hoan is\r\nNguyen Van Dong, born in 1928 (the year of the Snake) in the city of Can Tho,\r\nSouthern Vietnam. In the age of 8, he was sent to Hoi Thang pagoda in Chau Dien\r\nvillage, Cau Ke district, Vinh Binh province to study and be ordained under the\r\nspiritual name Thich Thang Hoan by the master monk Dac Ngo (secular name: Ho\r\nTrinh Tuong). After that, he moved to another pagoda to study with another\r\nmaster and was fully ordained in An Quang Buddhism Institute in 1953 where he graduated\r\nfrom the Intermediate program by 1957. In late 1957, he was sent to Buddhism Institute\r\nin Nha Trang, Central Vietnam by the Board Director of An Quang Vietnam Buddhism\r\nInstitute for the advanced-intermediate program of the Institute. In 1960, he\r\nreturned to Vietnam Buddhism Institute An Quang to study and completed the\r\nCollege of Buddhism Studies program by 1962. Along with Buddhism study, he also\r\npaid time for secular studying and graduated from the Faculty of Humanities in Van\r\nHanh University by 1970. Since then, he has held many positions and important\r\nroles in the Buddhism church, specialized in the Buddhism education in Viet nam\r\nand abroad. Especially, he always concerned about the development of the “School of Contemplation on Mind-Bodyâ€(vijñaptimÄtravÄdin) for the\r\ndescendant to practice on their way to liberation and enlightenment.

In the evening, the Venerable Thich Chan Tinh visited\r\nDuc Vien pagoda and Di Lac (Maitreya) pagoda in San Jose, North California.
