24th Buddhism Study Program
Update: 15/04/2017
On April 14, 2017 (Mar 18, lunar calendar), Reverend Thich Minh Thanh, the abbot of Am Phap An Pagoda (Bao Loc - Lam Dong), lecturer for Vietnam Buddhism University (Intermediate and advanced level) in HCMC, conducted the 24th Buddhism Study program at Hoang Phap Pagoda.
Based on the invitation from the Organizing Committee, this time, Venerable Thich Minh Thanh delivered the course with the topic "Practice for ease in life".
1. Breathing Method: In our daily life, we breathe all the time without consciousness of that activity. Our mind wanders around without acknowledging what are happening around and within our body at every moment.
The practice bringing attention to in-out breaths is a way uniting body and mind that can help us be fully in the present, here and now. With the mind-body union, practitioner can discover the miracle in life. In every breath, we can touch the ease, peace, and purity, then our mind can join the mode of concentration. In every breath, practitioner contemplates on impermanence:
I cannot get rid of old, I will grow old
I cannot get rid of the disease, I will be sick;
I cannot escape death, I will die;
I know that all what and whom I cherish today, will be far away from me one day.
I will inherit what I have created in the past and present and I know that when going away, I can bring along karmas only.
This practice seems simple but the effect is really tremendous. It is called mindfulness practice or breathing with consciousness that has been taught by the Buddha himself. This method makes it easy for us to enjoy bliss and peace in the busy life.
2. Laughing Method: Laughter is the way for us to feel the energy of joy from Buddha. When coping with difficulties or challenges in life, regardless we frown at things, feel uncomfortable or get angry, it is impossible to make things better. Why don’t we smile and receive them as the opportunity for us to practice with joys? It will help us feel much better, lighter and our mind will be able to have ease and peace then.
In more than an hour of sharing, the Reverend guided the audience simple and practical methods that bring benefits to the daily life and practice.
