41st Practical Dharma Program in 105th Seven-Day Retreat
Update: 18/04/2025
On April 09th, 2025, Senior Thich Minh Thanh, Member of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Dharma Propagation Board in HCMC, Abbot of Linh Quy Phap An Temple located in Bao Loc, Lam Dong province, presented a dharma talk at Hoang Phap pagoda in the 41st Practical Dharma Program.
The Senior taught the suffering contemplation of four great elements of the body to all attendees.
All things in this world are composed of four elements: earth, water, fire, and wind. Likewise, the human body is a combination of four elements and five aggregates, so Buddhism said this body is non-ego, impermanence, and suffering. Due to ignorance and not understanding the law of dependent originations, cause and effect, living beings cling to the body and its present things then consider them real, through which countless afflictions, hatred, and suffering arise. When understanding the non-ego of the human body and unreal world, one should contemplate the suffering from this body.
Deeply feeling the corollary of the clinging mind and the temporary body, the practitioner will have a bored mind, no longer liking, will no longer be greedy, angry due to attachment to the body. When there is no attachment, then one is not controlled by afflictions, eliminates greed, anger, and attains peace.
Thanks to practice, the practitioner gains benefits and happiness, firmly strengthens faith in the Three Jewels, deeply feels the supreme wisdom of the Buddha, and increasingly cherishes the Dharma canon that has been preserved and practiced by the Sangha.
