“A Letter For Mom” - Dharma Talk in the 89th Seven-Day Retreat
Update: 07/09/2018
In the morning of Sep. 7th, 2018, a Dharma Talk shared by Ven. Thich Phap Dang, an Abbot from Hue Vien Temple, Dong Nai province. His talk named “A letter for Mom”. The talk’s name is the real letter of a Chinese monk, Zen Master Dongshan LiangJie. His letter is an admonishment to all about the parent’s kindness, and how to repay to them.
To be a pious one, the Buddhist has to keep well the five precepts given by the Buddha, lead a virtuous life, follow the Buddha’s teaching then guide parent to follow as well, make them recognize what is the purpose of taking Buddhist practice for removing defilements and gaining happiness. For the beginning parents, who haven’t practiced before, we have to ask them to do Giving, sutra- chanting, reciting the Buddha’s name, developing the wholesome deeds. If parents had gone, we need to do as much as good things and transfer to them. If good karma collected enough to be a monk, a nun, this’s the highest repaying to parent’s kindness not only this life but many next existences.
In short, his message to all is well-treating to parent for later unrepentance.
In the afternoon, there is a group sharing in which all the unclear matters related to practice are cleared up by the monks.
