Buddhism Marriage Rite
Update: 07/04/2017
On April 7, 2017 (Mar 11, lunar calendar), Hoang Phap Pagoda held the Buddhism wedding ceremony for the couple: groom Truong Anh Tuan (religious name: Quang Vinh) and bride La Thi Hanh Thao (religious name: Nguyen Hieu).
For Buddhists, celebrating Buddhism wedding ceremony at the pagoda is an honorable and sacred happiness. With the witness of Triratna and relatives, the couple bride and groom vowed living together in the whole life, preserving the five precepts for lay Buddhists and following Buddha’s teachings.
After marital rites as offering incense to Buddha, appealing from the couple’s families, exchanging wedding rings… Reverend Thich Tam Hue and monks, on behalf of Hoang Phap sangha, advised the bride and groom guidelines for a home-sweet-home.
Buddhism wedding ceremony means “Hang Thuan†in Vietnamese, namely “forever harmonyâ€. This is the origin of happiness and ease in the families. In addition, the Reverend shared about Buddha’s teachings on how to build up happiness in marital life, communicate with parents and relatives, carry out pre-birth education and bring up children. A forever-harmony family is a happy one.
In Buddhism, Buddha teaches his disciples living in the community with harmony and happiness based on the spirit of Kà ya sà maggi, six good terms for harmony, including:
* Peaceful behavior
* Peaceful words to avoid conflict
* Common sense
* Practice together
* Solving problem together
* Sharing benefit together
If we know how to apply the spirit of Kà ya sà maggi daly in the family then we can enjoy sustained happiness in the whole life.
At the end of the ceremony, the Reverend offered the Buddhism marital certificate and wedding gift to the just-married couple.
