Minh Chat ashram in Can Tho held a memorial ritual for late Buddhist Dieu Nguyet who contributed to the construction of this ashram on Oct. 8th, 2023 (Aug. 24th, LC).
The ceremony was attended by Most Thich Giac Hoa, Member of Central witnessing Council of Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha (VBS), Buddhism Director Board (BDB) in Can Tho City, Abbot of Tay Canh Pagoda; Most Thich Dao Nhu, Vice President of VBS, Head of Vietnam BDB in Can Tho City, President of Khmer Theravada Buddhist University (Khmer TBU); Most Thich Thien Hue, Alternate member of VBS Central Council, Deputy BDB in Can Tho City, Abbot of Phuoc Long Pagoda; Most Thich Thien Thong, Deputy Director Board (DB), cum Head of VBS Ritual Board of Can Tho City, Abbot of Long An Pagoda, Cai Rang; Senior Thich Thong Hanh, Member of Director Council of VBS, Deputy Standing Board of VBS 's DB of Hau Giang province, Abbot of Long An Pagoda, Hau Giang; Senior Thich Duc Toan, Former Deputy of the BDB in Can Tho City, Abbot of Quang Duc Pagoda, Can Tho; Senior Thich Chieu Nhon, Head of City BDB’s Buddhist Guidance Board, Abbot of Quang Minh Pagoda; Nun Thich Nu Dieu Ngo, Advisor to the Central Nunnery Division, Witnessing of Buddhist Nun Division of Can Tho City, Abbot of Quan Am Pagoda; Nun Thich Nu Nhu Tam, Witnessing of Can Tho City’s Buddhist Nun Division, Abbot of Phuoc Long Pagoda; Junior Thich Thien Huu, Chief Secretary of the City Buddhist Affair Board, Abbot of Pho Quang Pagoda, Can Tho; Junior Thich Minh Tinh, the City BDB member, Head of Vinh Thanh District’s BDB, Abbot of Ngoc Trung Tang Temple; Junior Thich Thien Nhu, Deputy Abbot of Truc Lam Phuong Nam Monastery, Can Tho; Junior Thich Thien Hau, Chief of VBS Office in Can Tho City; monks of Hoang Phap pagoda; Monks in the Standing Board, Secretariat, Office, and monks in charge of temples.
The ceremony is a recognition of dedication and gratitude to those who have contributed to building the ashram and practicing the Bodhisattva conduct of lay people.
The Sangha chanted sutras, recited Buddha's name, and single-mindedly prayed that the soul of Buddhist Dieu Nguyet would soon be born in a peaceful realm.
Preaching a dharma talk, Most Thich Thien Hue praised the family's spirit of gratitude and repayment following Buddha's teachings; encouraging the listeners to make efforts to study, cultivate morality, and do good deeds to repay the master merit. On this occasion, he shared about the meaning of praying for rebirth, making offerings to monks, and giving.
Next, Head of Minh Chat ashram, Hoang Phap pagoda’s Charity Board in Can Tho, Junior Thich Tam Hue expressed his gratitude to all participants.
Last, all monks had a trip to release fish on Hau Giang River; pray for requiem, then make water burial for the soul of Novice Nun Thich Nu Lien Nguyen named Cao Thi Thanh Nguyen passed away at 61 years old on Aug. 20th, LC.
