Buddhist Wedding Ceremony

On Sunday, Sep. 9th, 2018, accepted the invitation of upāsaka Lu Hon Kia, Ven. Thich Chan Tinh and the monks visited Phuoc Long temple, located in Can Tho province to witness for a young couple’s wedding: broom Lu Tri and bride Chiem Yen Nhi, they all take refuge with the Triratna and become Buddhist followers.
Besides the Hoang Phap monks, there are many representations of the vicinity monks and nuns from other temples: Ven. Thich Thien Thong, Ven. Thich Minh thong, Ven. Thich Nhut Tam, Ven. Thich Duc Toan, Ven. Thich Minh Phu, Ven. Thich Minh Lien, Ven. Thich Minh Le, Ven. Thich Nu Nhu Minh, Ven. Thich Nu Dieu Ngo, Ven. Thich Nu Nhu Tam, together with some Abbots, monks, and nuns in Can Tho.
With the witness of the Triple Gems (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha) and the couple’s family, the Buddhist wedding activities with traditional rites were done by the pair as paying homage to the Triple Gems, kowtowing to express gratitude to parents’ merits, handing wedding rings and taking the marriage oath living together in the whole life following Buddha’s teachings.
Venerable Thich Chan Tinh, temple’s Abbot, on behalf of Hoang Phap Sangha, sent his advice on marriage ethics to the young couple. The key point for a happy marriage is harmony, the root of peace. Spouses in harmony bring about a happy family. Parents and kids in harmony can maintain morality and give an easy education training in the family’s next generations.
In addition, he also reminded young couple having proper preparation for the future by taking refuge in Triratna and abiding five precepts for lay Buddhists. Each family member should learn Dharma and apply to daily life, be virtuous men and believe in the Karma Rule. Five precepts are the basic rule of human morality. It produces for lay Buddhists are the basic morality for human beings, and conduct a happy life for not only the current existence but the future.
