Candle Lighting Ceremony to commemorate Amitabha’s Buddha in 2024 at Dong Cao Pagoda – Thanh Hoa

On Dec. 15th, 2024 (Nov. 15th, LC), Dong Cao pagoda in Thanh Hoa province (belonging to Hoang Phap pagoda s’ sect) solemnly organized the Candle Lighting Ceremony to commemorate the Amitabha Buddha by the spirit of gratitude and repayment of Pure Land practitioners.
The embodiment of noble virtues with boundless compassion and perfect wisdom, Amitabha Buddha is a solid support for sentient beings to rely on, transforming their inner self to attain peace and happiness. Turning to Him with a respectful heart, Buddhists in general and Pure Land practitioners in particular all hold memorial ceremonies to express their gratitude to Him.
After three times of Prajnà bells grumbling in the evening of Dec. 15th, 2024, all attendees welcomed the Sangha step by step towards the platform to witness the great ceremony.
The ceremony was witnessed by Junior Thich Tam Du, Abbot of Trang An pagoda, Nghe An; Junior Thich Tam Qua, Abbot of Van Dai Phuc pagoda, Ha Tinh; Junior Thich Tam Tuy, monks of Long Son pagoda, Binh Dinh; Novice Thich Tam Chan, monks of Hoang Phap temple, HCMC; Junior Thich Tam Hung, Abbot of Dong Cao pagoda, Thanh Hoa, Head the organizers and Buddhists everywhere returned to the temple to attend.
First, the mass read verses to praise Amitabha Buddha, led by Junior Thich Tam Tuy.
Next, Junior Thich Tam Hung lit candles from the Buddha altar, and then transmitted the light to the Monks, and Buddhists.
The candle light-transferring represents the spirit of four-group disciples cultivating together, transmitting wisdom light of the Buddhas to ten directions. The Abbot guided the reading of the poems reciting the Buddha's name to learn the Buddha's example, 12 prayers reciting the Buddha, and offered their vows.
On behalf of the Sangha, Junior Thich Tam Hung expressed his thanks and encouraged the spirit of gratitude of practitioners. Buddhist cultivators should constantly remember the merits of the Buddha, taking that as the goal of our practice. Learning the great vows of Amitabha Buddha is increasingly perfect faith, vows, and practice, then benefit society; continuing His career is to create a Pure Land right in this Saha world.
