Ceremony of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattvas ’s Birth in Cambodia

Before beginning the course, Jun. Ven. Thich Tam Luc, Hoang Phap’s Abbot in Cambodia talked about Avalokitesvara’s merit and practice. This person has the action and vow who not only listens to sattvas’s sufferings but also helps sentient beings. His appearance is descripted as a man in the Lotus Sutra, but after Buddhism came to China then Vietnam etc. Avalokitesvara is worshipped as a woman. Due to Asian people’ belief in general and Vietnam in particular whose image looks like a mother, whose love to Buddhists as children, often protecting, blessing, and saving people’s suffering. Mother Avalokitesvara’s images are always admired and worshiped; therefore his statue is set up as a women in many places.
Buddhists express the worship because of revering his merit of universal grace and salvation, not because of praying for forgiving or granting a favor. Prostrating Her means giving up pride and self evaluated as the lowness. Admiring, following and vowing for studying Her noble merit, energetically transforming actions, thought and speech to the Truth - Good Deeds – Beauty is to bring to peacful life, happiness for each person and others.
In the afternoon, people started to learn the course of naming Avalokitesvara Bodhisattvas.
