The ceremony is a recognition of dedication and gratitude to those who have contributed to building the ashram. The Sangha chanted sutras, recited Buddha's name, and single-mindedly prayed that the soul of Buddhist Dieu Nguyet would soon be born in a peaceful realm.
Preaching a dharma talk, Most Thich Thien Hue explained the meaning of the rite to pray for the dead, to offer the four kinds to monks and to make offerings. He explained that praying for the dead has three meanings: compassion power, chanting power and vow power are three important factors to help the soul be liberated. He emphasized: before, during and after practicing these rituals, the participants must keep their body, mouth and mind pure. Only when the three karmas are pure can they help the soul to be reborn in the Western Paradise. He also noted that praying for the dead is not a ritual to worship outside, but it is important for the sincerity and respect of the relatives. Thanks to that sincerity and monks’ prayers, the spirit can be liberated and born into the pure land of Amitabha Buddha.
The monks and officials at Area 5, Cai Khe Ward organized to give 100 gifts to difficult residents in the same afternoon.
Last, the mass went to Hau Giang and Can Tho to have a release rite.
