“DHARMA PRACTITIONER’S QUALITIES”- Dharma Talk in the 89th Seven-Day Retreat
Update: 04/09/2018
In the morning of Sep. 4th, 2018, Ven. Bhikkhuni Thich Nu Nhu Lan, the About of Hung Thien temple, located in Dong Thap province, visited the main lecture hall for the next talk on the title of “Dharma Practitioner's Qualities”.
Buddhism foundation is seeking peace and happiness, and to be happy one needs to sow the wholesome seeds via action, speech, and thoughts.
To be a virtuous one we first should be honest, don’t cheat and lie others. People take easily to see others’ mistakes but not oneself. Taking the right practice one has to spend the time to look back our action for developing the good things and correcting the bad things. This is the way to cultivate our compassion and loving kindness. If people always look for others’ faults and criticize them, we’re practicing nothing but increasing our selfishness. No one is perfect in this life, we all make mistakes. So instead of pointing out others’ mistakes and criticize them we should let them know and give them the chance to correct. The causes and effects give equal fruit to everyone, so we no need to meddle with creating more bad fruits. So for the others’ mistakes, just apply tolerance and forgiveness if we can.
Beside developing compassion, one should be humble and respectful to others. For a practitioner, humanity is a nice practice for reducing “I” and “mine”. When “I” is less important, we care more about others.
The next, patience needs to be practiced for maintaining the practice. Without patience, we get angry easily and can’t chase to finish our goal. Taking patience practice we also get more compassion.
Buddhist practice really is not easy to do, so one needs to try day by day. Happiness doesn’t cause by possession but giving. It’s not grasping but releasing. For these things can be obstacles for our practice, drop it down. Dropping material things for gaining wisdom and compassion is the wise choice for us. And this is how we repay the Buddha’s great compassion.
