Dharma talk A human life without practice, a thousand lives of suffering - Senior Thich Tri Hue in the 105th Seven-day Retreat
Update: 24/04/2025
On the 6th day in the 105th Seven-Day Retreat of April 24th, 2025, Senior Thich Tri Hue, Standing Member of the Central Dharma Propagation Board, Abbot of Phap Tang pagoda, HCMC preached a Dharma talk named A human life without practice, a thousand lives of suffering in the Wheel Dharma Building's Main Hall.
Existing in the world in the cycle of causes and conditions, sentient beings are subject to impermanence, controlled by greed, anger, and ignorance, creating evil karma, then countless sufferings. Realizing the impermanence of life, wise people must develop the Bodhi mind, practice towards enlightenment, and end suffering. The Buddha taught the mind is the master, a pure mind leads to a peaceful life, a polluted mind leads to suffering, following like its shadow and form. Thus, practice is turning inward to contemplate the inner feelings. For Pure Land practitioners, reciting Buddha's name is to transform delusions, eliminate greed, anger, and ignorance. True practice is a comprehensive training journey: the practice of mind to understand the impermanent truth, no-self; practice of thoughts to eliminate afflictions; practice the body and speech to not create evil karma by actions and words; keep the precepts to prevent mistakes, let go of attachments and create merit to cultivate good roots for many lives. That is the practice will lead to true liberation. To achieve this, practitioners need to be constantly diligent, not indulgent, because just one moment of forgetfulness opens countless doors, pushing us to continue drifting in six-realm samsara.
