Over 1100 students from Colleges and Universities inside and outside Ho Chi Minh City returned to Hoang Phap Pagoda to attend One Day Retreat for Students on May 11th, 2025.
All students gathered in the lecture hall to participate in the Buddhist quiz show after their breakfast
Next, all students listened to a dharma talk named “Mindfulness – The Power of Awareness in the Digital Age” propagated by Junior Thich Phap Nhat.
The monk taught that practicing mindfulness by breathing is a practical and effective way to build a conscious and joyful life in this era. Mindfulness is present, awakening in this moment, and feeling life fully in every breath, step, or moment. Meditation has no strangeness, it is the art of living, living deeply with ourselves and the world around us, especially in the digital age, mindfulness becomes even more necessary. He highlighted the contrasts between the virtual world and reality so that the mass can recognize and practice:
Using social media mindfully is the ability to face ourselves instead of being caught up in virtual trends. Peace is not in attractive photos, likes or high interactions, but in the inner peace when we can sit down and breathe. When social media promotes emotional outbursts, meditation helps us return to sit still, clearly recognize our emotions. Everything is covered with the perfect filter of the virtual world, living a meditative life is daring to look at the imperfect aspects to transform and mature. No need to impress on social media, but spread and connect with each other with a sincere heart. No need to be busy creating content on platforms to attract interactions, but fully enjoy every moment of life.
Breathing is a safe residence like a magical gift that nature gives us to rely on firmly amidst the fluctuations of life. Living completely in each breath of mindfulness and peace will help the practitioner to concentrate; concentration will give us strength, awaken the source of awareness and love within us. Thanks to that, we overcome all difficulties and sadness, achieve meaningful ideals, build and contribute good and noble things to life.
The monk spent time asking and answering questions with the students about the lecture topic after the Dharma talk.
