Preaching the essentials of Pure Land Patriarchs' practice in reciting the Buddha's name, the Senior reminded listeners to recognize the three characteristics in the world of impermanence, non-self, and suffering. By thoroughly understanding life's nature, followers can develop a mind of boredom to abandon, escape the birth and death circle and obtain wisdom with that mind; Arousing faith in the reciting the Buddha's name, they will comply with precepts, purify six senses, and calm evil thoughts. Reciting the Buddha's names will prevent afflictions from arising, the cause of birth and death will be cut off, and practitioners will enjoy the ultimate bliss with a steadfast mind in this life.
The Buddha compassionately spreaded this way to His followers to cut off birth and death, requiring each person to practice earnestly. No matter how glorious the destination is, if one does not walk, cannot reach the destination. The Patriarchs have always encouraged followers to be quick in observing impermanence. Practitioners must earnestly vow to escape birth and death, and rely on the Buddha's name day and night without distraction, then can enjoy true bliss in this life; there are nine grade golden lotuses for practitioners in future lives in the Pure Land.
