Dharma Talk “Saving for Later” --- The 91st Seven-Day Retreat
Update: 25/04/2019
In the morning of April 25th, 2019 (March 21st, LC) Ven. Thich Dao Quang, a Hoang Phap monk current abiding in Cu Chi, had a talk on the title of “Saving for Later”.
Normally we think of abandoning of everything if enter the Buddhist way, but for the lay, Buddhists do we need properties? The lay people are different from the clergy one while we are still personally responsible for family and the Buddha’s heritage – Dharma. Then, properties are really important for all in general, but how to save it properly?
There are two types of properties: material things and dharma. Material things support our daily life need or for emergency case. However, it’s just our means, don’t attach to get suffering or go down in the lower realms. Dharma property is more important when it drives us to a happy place instead of suffering. Dharma is nothing but the good karma we’ve done in life. As the Buddhist, we should work hard when till be young. Collect good karma for later. All the suffering in life caused by bad karma, so just doing good things we will be happy even when we get sick, old-age, or we die… , all we get over easier than others. This body is the collection from the earth, water, wind, and fire, so it can be over whenever without any arrangements. Therefore, try to be a wise man and practice hard when still living. This is called “saving for later”.
“The fool one cares only this life
The wise one cares both this life and the next life”
