Examination and Rehearsal for Clergy Ordination

Vinaya takes vital role for the life span of Buddhism. It helps Buddhism grows well. Buddha teaches us: " Regardless how large the distance is, he who lives without following Vinaya, is very far from me. Vice versa, he who abides by Vinaya is my close disciple"

Vinayais the disciplinary code for self-training of monks and nuns. Clergy people practice Vinaya by purifying body and mind, nurturing compassion to attain liberation. Vinaya is not dogmatic but practical helping practitioners know which type of thought, speech and activity could lead to bliss/suffering. Due to such pivotal role of Vinaya, fresh practitioners always preserve and take it as the guideline to practice on very first steps to the Enlightenment.

Before joining Phap Loa Ordination organized by Executive Board of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam in Dong Nai province at Truc Lam Tri Duc Zen Monastery (Aug 19 – 23 lunar calendar), clergy candidates from Hoang Phap Sangha have had the examination and rehearsal to be eligible for the ordination. Ordained monk must be a talented, virtuous and qualified one to learn Buddha teachings and preach Dharma.

The examination and rehearsal were about:regulatory frameworkfor clergy people, individual virtue, etiquette for clergy people, rituals of chanting and verses, worship activities, how to use worship facilities… Eligible candidates have been joyfully approved by the Sangha for the ordination this time. The rest ones need to practice more and wait until next time.

This is a very practical work to help clergy practitioners learn more about Buddhism fundamentals so that they can skillfully preach Dharma in future, be qualified as Buddha’s disciples with the mission saving sentient beings.
