Update: 07/08/2019
The next day, after breakfast, the monk guide staffs around the temple, introduce to them some information about each area that includes some basic knowledge of Buddhism, then they come to listen to a short talk from Ven. Thich Tam Dong on the title of “A Day for Self-Loving”.
With his own knowledge and experience, he shared how to have an energetic day: getting up early, showing gratitude, sitting still, drinking water, exercising, bathing in the morning, try to express self-motional by writing. Accordingly, he emphasized three things that need to be done at the Company: avoiding distractions that occur in the company, respecting the community, taking self-responsibility, not blamed for anything.
Work hard for valuable labor but keep good your health. Spend time for family and try to refresh one’s mind every day.
In the afternoon, all staffs chant the Ullambana sutta with the monks and people. Chanting finished, they continue another talk spoken by Ven. Thich Tam Tien on the title of “Ullambana sutta’s meaning”.
He told the story of Mahāmoggallāna, one of the most important disciples of the Buddha during the Buddha’s time. The story is about his filial piety. Ven. Tam Tien gives an explanation of the meaning of every incident of the story. Parent with the boundless love can do whatever for the happiness, benefit of their children, that’s why parent’s gratitude is the highest one that we can not forget, can not ignore, or do something makes parent upset. He mentions two conditions that give the highest fruit when doing merit during the Ullambana festival: doing giving of offering something, let transfer to parent and do with your wholehearted, not regret. By this, he helps people understand more the meaning of the Ullambana festival as well as remind their duty to parent no matter they're still alive or passed away.
Finish the talk, there are some books sent to them as a Dharm Gift: Muddy, Lesson for the Kids, 60-Year Thich Chan Tinh Yearbook, Hoang Phap’s Brief Introduction, Ullambana sutta, With all Your Heart, How Dharam saved My Life, A Rose Badge on Ullambana Day.
