Flower scattering ceremony and the Triratna offerings of the Buddhist Sangha of Japan at Hoa Phuc Temple
Update: 13/11/2017
In the spirit of Buddhism without borders, with the heart and the radiant self-seeking of the practitioners carrying the sacred mission "Serving beings is offering to the Buddha." Sangha of Pure Land Buddhism led by Yoshimizu Daichi - Former President of the Pure Land Buddhism Association of Japan, along with Matsuoka Genryu, Kono Shunsuke, Buddhist monk Thich Nu Tam Tri and monks from Japanese Pure Land school visited the ceremony of scattering flowers at Hoa Phuc Temple, Hoa An Hamlet, Hoa Thach Commune, Quoc Oai District, Hanoi on the morning of November 10, 2017 (on September 22 Rooster year).
It is known that the history of rituals of scattering flowers to honor the Buddha began in the 8th century when monk Phat Triet from ancient Vietnam came to Japan to propagate. Initially, he was in Dai An Pagoda, teaching Sanskrit and Buddhist scriptures. He was respected by the royal family and the people. When Todaiji pagoda held the kaigen ceremony for Buddha, he was invited by the royalty to attend. Here, he played the dance music and performed the Bodhisattva dance, which was learned by Japanese monks at that time. Then, the ritual of worshiping the Buddha was born and is transmitted until today.
According to the schedule of the trip, the Sangha had the highest support from the Central Buddhist Church of Vietnam, the Government Religious Committee and especially Buddhist monks and nuns in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Hoa Phuc Pagoda was honored to be the first Buddhist temple in Hanoi to be held by the Sangha to pray for world peace, good weather and happiness for all.
With affection for the Buddhists of Hoa Phuc Pagoda, the leader of the delegation together with the Buddhist monks focused praying on national security and Buddhist dharma. With a strong and moving tone of majestic relaxation, in the traditional costumes, the whole group mindfully rested in the great name and merciful light of teacher Amitabha Buddha.
Venerable Daichi had a few words of encouragement for the Buddhists here reminding them to recite Buddha’s name every hour to make life happier. Furthermore, the Venerable also pointed out to the disciples the equality and the symbiosis in the practice. Everyone is a disciple of Amitabha Buddha. If we know how to practice Buddhist recitations we all have the same happy life. There is no distinction between rich and poor, monk or Buddhist. That is the Pure Land way. Symbiosis is to live together, to share together, to love together, to thank each other, to show gratitude toward brotherhood in the bodhimandal to make it develop and become increasingly broader so that everyone can cherish the Buddha concept.
The visit was brief but it left in the heart of the Buddhists the respect and extreme joy. Before the farewell, the Sangha and the Buddhists together reviewed the history of the Pure Land Buddhism in Japan and Vietnam through songs directed towards peace and liberation.
With aspiration of the merit, the Vietnamese Buddhists hope that the link between two Buddhist traditions will always be stable and the friendship between Vietnam and Japan will become more profound.
