How to Win Other’s Heart

In the afternoon of Sep 16, 2017 (Jul 26, lunar calendar), Senior Venerable Thich Chan Tinh had a talk with participants on the ending day of 86th Seven-Day Retreat.
Via his sharing, the Venerable explained meaning of Seven-Day Retreat: this is the opportunity for participants to diligently practice and recite Buddha’s name in seven consecutive days. During this time, everyone has time to reflect if his/her thought, speech, activities are good or proper enough. If all those three great powers are pure, it is a proof of promotion during the retreat.
In addition, the Venerable advised everyone following Buddha’s example in cultivation. Buddha is admired, respected by everyone. He is the shelter for all sentient beings because he is the Enlightened One with ultimate wisdom and virtue in every thought, speech, and activities. We are the ones partly having wisdom and virtue, but we cannot use compassion to win others’ heart yet. It is necessary for us to practice more to get the ultimate attainment. To be alike Buddha, we should learn and practice his teachings, let go all the clinging/extreme manner, easefully open our hearts to receive new things and widen our knowledge.
A devout Buddhism learner should daily supervise his/her three great powers to have good speech, thought, and actions to sow good deeds. Otherwise, it is very difficult for us to win others’ heart or sympathy. To get friendship and others’ affection, we should produce and pervade easeful/ happy energy. Everyone around us is the mirror reflecting our behaviors to this world. Hence, it is necessary for us to apply the following sentence in daily life: "smiling makes friends, frowning makes opponents†At the end of the talk, he shared six tips winning others’ hearts as following:
