One-day cultivation in Cambodia
Update: 13/06/2017
On 11th June, 2017 (17th May of Rooster Year), Hoang Phap Pagoda in Cambodia organized a monthly one-day cultivation course. Vietnamese Cambodians and native Cambodians around Hoang Phap came to visit and participate in the course.
After having breakfast, Buddhists gatherd at the main hall to listen the Buddha speech given by abbot most venerable Thich Hoang Gioi. For one hour the speech with some issues includes eating vegetarian food, reading sutras and reciting Buddha’s name.
1/ Eating vegetarian food:living-beings from the beginning till now, all have connected by causes and conditions, a group of people who have relations with each other may become our parents, relatives and so on. Depending on what a person done during their life span, they will become different worlds after dead, such as: hell, hunger-devil, animals, Asura, human and heaven. Our eyes are hard to see these after-dead-forms, as a result, we may accidentally murder our mother while she is in a form of chicken. A grandma who had killed and served chicken food to her sons and grandchildren might turn into chicken after dead, and somehow, her sons and grandchildren meet the grandma-chicken in the market, and they kill the chicken to worship grandma and eat grandma-chicken after that. To avoid this bad situation, and to memorize our dead ancestors, parents and relatives, we should not kill and eat living-beings.
2/ Chanting Sutras:Sutras are Buddha’s teachings which mention the morality, ways to cultivate and improve mind, ways to bring happiness to own self and others. Hence, chanting Sutras has great moral meaning. The basic uses of chanting Sutras are that leading people to learn, think and understand Buddha teachings applies what they learnt to daily life. Applying Sutras after thinking of it and experiencing it will help people achieve what they desire, especially benefit to own self and others.
3/ Reciting Buddha’s name:Nowadays, reciting Buddha’s nameis becoming a subject that familiar to whom who wants to learn about Buddha, reciting, remembering and thinking Buddha teachings that will wake learner’s mind up. Hence, chanting Buddha’s name means remembering and thinking of Buddha, in a widen benefit; learners will always keep themselves in consciousness and right thinking during every decision. For example, when we fall into messy thinking, we can recite Buddha’s nameto push away the discarded thoughts. The more time we do it, the sooner Buddha comes into our soul that transforms the evil to kindness, from the dark to the bright.
After the speech, Buddhists start the cultivation as usual.
