One-day happy and peaceful cultivation at Tieu Dao pagoda in Quang Ninh province

On August 22th, 2017 (lunar July 1st of Rooster Year), over 600 hundreds good man and believing woman came to Tieu Dao Pagoda to attend the one–day happy and peaceful cultivation retreat. Junior Ven. Thich Tam Tinh – the committee of Director Board of Viet Nam Buddhist Association, Abbot of Tieu Dao Pagoda had a dharma talk on the theme “The Ullambana Day’s significance – pay ones’ gratitude to their parents”.
Mr. Maudgalyayana, one of ten great disciples of the Buddha, is the most talent one about his suppernature power. Mrs. Thanh De is his mother. She was greedy, wicked. Due to her unbelievingness in the Triratna. As a result, she did many mistakes, evils actions. Therefore, after her death, she was sent in hell of the suffering realm, the kind of demon, and lasted hunger and thirt in wild prison.
By his magical power, Mr. Maudgalyayana had seen his mother suffer from these pains. He was extremely sad and then told to the Buddha. He insisted to Buddha conducting the way for releasing his mother. The Buddha taught that although his mind is endlessly piousness and good at supperpower, he can not himself save his mother. He ought to refuge on such the Sangha’s supernature power of great merit as ocean and support from ten directions that he hopes to release her. Mr. Maudgalyayana practiced rightly as the Buddha’s teaching, offering to Sangha respectly on the fifteenth day of July. Therefore, his mother was born in the happy and peaceful realm.
Ullambana Day is the day of gratitude to one’s parents, reminds the pious mind of the Buddha’s children. On this chance, Buddhists should thank to the parents’ nourishing merit and wish the sangha’s prayings which helps the dad and mum in current increase their longevity and blessing as well as the previous life’s parents who will be reborn in the Pure Land.
