One-day Practice
Update: 10/12/2018
On Sunday, Dec. 12th, 2018, thousand of Buddhist gathered at Hoang Phap to join the One-day practice, organized once a month.
Having breakfast, people gathered at the main lecture hall for taking the practice course, walking meditation and listening Dharma talk from Ven. Abbot Thich Chan Tinh.
We go to the temple to learn Dharma and practice. Buddhist practice is not so complicated but correct from wrong to right and renews our body, speech, and mind. We might be not so good before with full of greed, hatred, and illusion inside. We might tell lie others, used ugly words to others, made people separating or suffering. We might have bad thoughts before; might steal, kill or do sexual misconduct before. Today we go to the temple to reduce these things by learning and applying the Buddha’s teaching into daily life, correct to be better. We take refuge with the Buddha but He plays the role of teacher only, having no divine power to lift us from dirt to pure, we have to do it by ourselves. Don’t waste your time to pray and ask for help. Our body, speech, and mind created karma, now we have to stop to change suffering to happiness. This is the right practice according to Buddhism. He showed the three types of practitioner:
The first type of doing chanting, meditation, worshipping… for asking wealth, fame, sinful removing; not really for changing the karma created by the body, speech, and mind. Keep doing unwholesome deeds.
The second types doing these things above for self-correcting, take the Buddha and Boddhisattva as good master and doctors, start to do wholesome deeds.
The third one doing nothing, no chanting, no worshipping, no meditating,… but always be mindful, having less greed, hatred, and ignorance, be kind to all people.
From here people will recognize which kind of practitioner we should follow to bring about happiness, benefit for self and others.
In the afternoon, after the reciting the Buddha-name time, there was a sitting meditation and reciting the Five Precepts of the lay Buddhist.
