Good men and believing women everywhere gathered at Hoang Phap pagoda to attend One-day Practice on June 09th, 2024.
 

One-Day Practice

 

After having breakfast, all Buddhists came to the lecture halls of Dharma Wheel Building to begin reciting the Buddha name, walking meditation and chanting precepts.

After the ritual, all practitioners listened to a Dharma talk named Overcoming pressure, and peer's inferiority complex, preached by Senior Thich Nhat Tu, standing member of Executive Council - Standing Deputy Rector of Vietnam Buddhist University in HCMC – Giac Ngo Pagoda.

Peers can be divided into age groups of teenagers, youth, adults, middle-aged, etc. Peer inferiority pressure is always there no matter what age group, has caused an inferiority complex about one's status being different to the people of same age groups who have been poor, difficult, and unhappy. Even if one lives a good life, it still won't be successful or happy in its efforts... then create comparison between itself and people of the same age group, leading to invisible pressure, creating pressure for that individual.

At the same age, there are feelings of inferiority about one's identity. Parents and grandparents need to understand these issues to help our children in their teens, young adults, and older adults. The root of peer pressure is in comparing one's own results with the results of others, causing lameness, not being able to sympathize with oneself... leads to changes in one's vision, goals, lifestyle, behavior and values. This image is divided into two trends:

+ Positive: makes people affected by positive groups have positive attitudes, positive visions, positive adjustments, positive striving, positive perseverance leading to positive successes.... However, we also need to determine the limits of our abilities so as not to create pressure on ourselves.

+ Negative: peer pressure at any age can lead to boredom and drowsiness (lethargy).

No matter how serious it is, all problems have solutions. In the spirit of Buddhism, such as: Sympathy is compassion; Finding solutions is loving kindness; The right solution is wisdom. These are 3 important keys to help our loved ones overcome crisis and pressure.

The Senior pointed out solutions to help overcome the above pressures:

+ No comparison.

+ Do n't have excessive expectations.

+ No competition.

+ Develop true confidence.

+ Practice reciting Buddha's name or meditate.

He reminds us, the pressures are largely caused by our thinking in the wrong way; The pressure caused by us striving too hard leads to failure; The pressure that leads to inferiority complex is because instead of praising our merits, rejoicing, and striving properly, we feel that we are not equal to others, so we accept to let life go; The pressure that leads to depression and mental illness is because we do not know how to relax by reciting Buddha's name, meditating, etc., as the Buddha taught in the sutras; The pressure is because we do not know how to be satisfied with what we have... because at present is still enough to bring happiness and joy in life.

Finally, he hopes the parents and grandparents will be compassionate towards their children, grandchildren and family members, and monitor the physiological and psychological manifestations so that we can cultivate compassion at the right time to help our loved ones overcome pain, and unhappiness. That is how we bring Buddhism into family life. Thus, we are those who walk on the Bodhisattva path, practicing Bodhisattva conduct to bring peace and happiness to the many.

The dharma talk ended with the joy of the mass.

After reciting the Buddha name in the afternoon, Buddhists practiced sitting meditation quietly.

Before leaving the temple, Buddhists received book gifts.
