One-Day Practice
Update: 23/11/2025
Good men and believing women everywhere gathered at Hoang Phap pagoda to attend One-day Practice on Nov. 23rd, 2025.
All Buddhists came to the lecture halls of Dharma-Wheel Building to begin reciting the Buddha name, walking meditation and chanting precepts.
In response to the Organizers’ invitation, Nun Thich Nu Nhu Lan, Abbot of Hung Thien pagoda, Dong Thap province preached the topic “Peace in everyday life”.
The nun taught four peaceful dharma so that these necessary dharma will apply to practice and bring happiness in the life of the practitioner. The four dharmas are:
- Peace of mind when owning assets, and owning legal property.
- Peace of mind when knowing how to properly consume assets.
- The peace of not being in debt.
- Peace and joy when living according to good deeds, Buddha's teachings.
Having legal property is the first dharma that refers to the possession of wealth, but also to integrity and a sense of self-respect in labor. Materials obtained from honesty will bring a sense of confidence and peace from inside and that peace is the first fulcrum of happiness.
Using property properly is the second dharma and this is the test of awareness. Wealth and money are inherently neither good nor evil, it is users that determine whether it becomes a good thing or a cause of insecurity.
Debt freedom is the third dharma that opens up another depth in the teachings. Debt is not only about money, it is also about emotional debts, broken promises, unrepented mistakes... Each debt is a burden on the mind that causes the debtor to live in a state of stress and anxiety. So, when life is not entangled by debts, it is a kind of happiness.
Ultimately, living with good dharma is the foundation for the entire happy life of a lay person. Giving alms, observing precepts, doing good deeds... are not moral slogans but practices that help the mind become clear.
When the mind is good, owning property, spending, and how to treat people are more dharma-compliant, less prone to greed, anger, and ignorance. It is not only a teaching for lay people during the Buddha's time but also a practical path for anyone who wants to maintain peace amid the fluctuations of modern life.
The Dharma talk ended in joy for all attendees.
After reciting the Buddha name, Buddhists practiced sitting meditation quietly in the afternoon. Before leaving the temple, Buddhists received dharma book gifts.
