Retreat for Students
One-Day Retreat for Students.
Update: 20/09/2026
Crowds of students gathered at Hoang Phap Pagoda to attend the "One Day Retreat for Students," held in the warm atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn season of filial piety on Sunday, Sep. 20th, 2026.
The morning practice began with a walking and sitting meditation session, followed by a sutra chanting session under the monks’ guidance. After chanting at 9:00 a.m., the students listened to a Dharma talk entitled “Guard Your Mind Amidst Life’s Flow,” delivered by Junior Ven. Thich Khai Thanh, Abbot of Phap Bao Pagoda (Dong Nai).
Observing the nature of a river (never static, shifting between clarity and turbidity), the monk skillfully drew a parallel to youth. Addressing young people taking their first tentative steps into adulthood—who often struggle to navigate life while preserving their innate goodness—he highlighted three aspects that can cause them to lose their wholesome nature. In doing so, he offered them a chance to recognize these dangers, pause, and choose a meaningful life. It is easy to lose oneself in the eyes of others, in romantic relationships, or amidst the ups and downs of success and failure. The core lesson the monk urged the young to remember was: "No matter the twists and turns of life, one must preserve a kind and wholesome heart."
A sutra chanting session from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM concluded the students' spiritual practice day. This one-day retreat offered the young participants an opportunity to embody and reconnect with the Buddha's teachings.
