Penitent Course on Mar 27, 2017
Update: 28/03/2017
In the evening of Mar 27, 2017 (Feb 30, lunar calendar), Buddhists from HCMC and other regions gathered at Hoang Phap pagoda for the penitent course that regularly occurs twice a month.
This time, Venerable Thich Tam Dac, abbot of Vinh Phap pagoda in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa, had a Dharma talk with the topic: "Nurturing Good Behaviors".
For Buddhists, in order to have an easeful and peaceful life as well as to achieve certain attainments in practicing, it is necessary for them to nurture and promote merits as following:
1. Stay healthy: because a sound mind abides in a healthy body
2. Keep morality: we should protect our body, speech and mind from evils and bad habits to have peace and purity in body and mind.
3. Avoid anger: Buddha teaches us that a small fire of anger can destroy a forest of merits. Hence, we should be awakened to control our hatred that may occur in our mind.
4. Growing the mind of Loving Kindness - Compassion – Bliss – Equanimity: these characteristics can lead us to truly liberation and happiness
5. Diligent Effort: practitioners should be diligent in practicing because diligence gives us the strength and energy during our path to the Enlightenment.
6. Strong and consistent belief: In order to have achievements in practicing, Buddhists should keep strong and consistent belief in Triratna regardless how many hardships and challenges we have to cope with.
7. Non-discrimination: Buddhism practitioners should avoid discrimination in mind, have equal and fair deal with everyone.
8. Patience: without patience, toughness and challenges may make us upset or shocked. If we cannot control our body-speech-mind and grow bad deeds, we may be reborn in the lower realms in the after-lives. Hence, we should learn and practice patience in every situation.
9. Tolerance: It is the spirit of caring for the benefit of others than ourselves. This is the must-have virtue of Buddhists.
Via practical sharing, the Reverend supplied the mass helpful knowledge on the Path to the liberation.
