On Oct. 24th, 2022 (Sep. 29th, LC) good men and believing women returned to Suoi Phap pagoda in Tay Ninh province (belonging to Hoang Phap pagoda ‘s custom) to attend the periodic penance rite.
Before the rite, Junior Thich Tam Huong, Abbot of Suoi Phap Pagoda had a dharma talk titled The meaning of repentance in Buddhism.
From the dharma talk, the monk explained that repentance is one of the very important practices in Buddhism.
This means repenting, regretting the wrong actions that one has caused, not daring to create more unwholesome karma. We along with countless sentient beings have been drifting in the cycle of birth and death for countless eons, so in each life we may have created many karma to harm ourselves and others, causing suffering to sentient beings, that's why we need to repent and make amendment.
All the mistakes of sentient beings come from thinking of each person caused by three karma (body, speech, and mind). So, when repenting, we must sincerely transform three karma making them pure again; Next, it is the vow not to recur those mistakes. In this way, our repentance becomes more meaningful, and then our body and mind are pure and peaceful.
