Periodic Repentance on Mar 11, 2017
Update: 12/03/2017
In the evening of Mar 11, 2017 (Feb 14, lunar calendar), Buddhists from HCM City and other regions attended the periodic repentance ceremony at Hoang Phap Pagoda.
This time, Reverend Thich Tam Vuong from Hoang Phap Sangha delivered the Dharma talk: "How can you forget that?"
In daily life, we often refer the word "forget" as the mouthpieces for cases of spending, undone or forgotten things. In term of practicing, if practitioner often says “forget†then it is difficult for him/her to be diligent and get the attainment. Therefore, this topic is more likely the reminder for the mass to review and keep in mind Buddhism fundamentals.
The Reverend pointed out that Buddha’s stories are the treasure of precious lessons for Buddhists to follow because Buddha always keeps mindfulness and awareness in every moment and every thought of his. His words and actions always go together. As a result, he has got the ultimate attainment, become the teacher of devas/humans and merciful father of sentient beings. Buddha’s stories are the precious examples for practitioners to see, learn and keep in mind his cultivation and merits to follow during their practicing on the Path to the Enlightenment.
After that, the Reverend shared the important issues that we often "forget" as: the Path to the Enlightenment, the Bodhicitta, the preserving of relevant precepts, and the moral ethics that we need to perform in life. With practical examples, Venerable analyzed in details the serious consequences when we forget important things, even when we are Buddhists. He drew the conclusion: there are forgettable things and must-remembering things so that we can have the attainment and achievement in life and in practicing. Especially on the Path to the Enlightenment and Liberation, we should keep in mind the right mindfulness, right awareness, and the right view of things to get the expected attainment/achievement.
After the Dharma talk, the ceremony kept on with repentant rite and the affirmation observing the Five Precepts from the mass as usual.
