Repentance ceremony on April 29th, Year of the Snake

On May 26th, 2025 (April 29th, Year of the Snake), men and women Buddhists inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend a periodical penitential ceremony.

One of the pagoda's Monks, Junior Thich Tam Đieu gave a dharma talk to the mass before the rite.

 

The Lecturer explained clearly about the Pure Land sect. This practice not only chants Buddha's name to pray for a Pure-Land rebirth, but also helps practitioners build a good way of life based on the foundation of compassion and wisdom. The true practice must be firmly built on the three elements of Faith - Vow - Practice, which are the Pure Land foundation, the practical path leading to deliverance. In that journey, compassion and wisdom are the roots to nurture a pure mind, helping practitioners transform suffering and expand love to all beings. Learning Buddhism does not stop at knowledge, but must involve self-transformation and service to others, gradually building the Pure Land in real life. When the body and mind are purified by wisdom, the practitioner's living conditions will be changed thanks to a good heart and good actions, as a result, this life will become a Pure Land. To achieve that ideal, Buddhists need to follow Buddhas - Bodhisattvas vows, diligently practice Bodhisattva conduct, live a life of altruism, persevere in saving itself, serve others, consider suffering as substance to cultivate compassion and nurture Bodhicitta. That is the practical and noble path to realize the ideal of enlightenment in life.

 

After the Dharma talk, the mass entered the penitential ritual as usual.
