Repentance ceremony on Dec. 14th, year of the Dragon
Update: 13/01/2025
On Jan. 13th, 2025 (Dec. 14th, LC), good men and believing women inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend a periodical penitential rite.
Junior Thich Tam Truong, Abbot of Hoang Phap pagoda had a dharma before the rite.
The year of the Dragon is coming to end and welcoming the new spring, the Abbot reviewed the Buddha's final teachings to remember the earnest messages before Nirvana time that the Buddha preached to His disciples. There is nothing more lasting and worthy for our reliance than the Triple Gem in this illusory life, because the awakening, nobility and purity are the trust, the bright path for those who are the Buddha's poor son to look for a peaceful place. The Buddha earnestly advised His disciples to always remember and comply with these rules. Receiving them as the teacher to protect the practice, by complying with precepts, merit and virtue will arise, meditation and wisdom will grow. Next, practitioners must always protect, restrain six senses from being indulging in six-scene objects; often reflect on oneself to enlighten the mind, recognize indulgences to generate a mind of shame and repent for its mistakes. Do not be afraid to face, accept and correct our mistakes, because when still knowing shame, we can still let good dharma grow.
Each person should restrain the mind from anger, deal with anger with compassion, do not let anger harm others by words or actions, because that will burn all the merits of the self; Do not be arrogant, or show off yourself, despise others but always be humble, because that is a big ocean of all good deeds. Do not desire too much pleasure, must know enough, otherwise it will be easy to be dragged into suffering and trouble.
The Buddha compassionately showed the method to end suffering. Every Buddhist should always remember and diligently practice His teachings to progress on the path of cultivation, bringing benefits and happiness to oneself and to others.
After the Dharma talk, the mass entered the penitential ritual as usual.
