Repentance ceremony on Jan. 30th, Year of the Snake

On Feb. 27th, 2025 (Jan. 30th, LC), good men and believing women inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend a periodical penitential rite.

Junior Thich Tam Cung, Monks of Hoang Phap pagoda had a dharma talk before the rite. When becoming a Buddhist, we will have fellow practitioners to share our feelings and thoughts about learning the Dharma. Next, it is the gratitude to the origin master who took refuge, gave us a Dharma name, and guided our practice. Second, it is the fellow practitioners who go to the temple with us, chant sutras and worship Buddha, and advise and encourage each other. In addition to these friends, Mahayana practitioners also follow the examples of the deeds of Bodhisattvas such as Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva...to have spiritual support and connect us in Buddhist activities. Deeper in the practice is to turn back and contemplate ourselves, then recognize that karma is our closest companion from the past to the present and the future. Accompanied greed, anger, and ignorance from the immemorial time, we partly also had wisdom, compassion, joy, and equanimity. Up to now knowing to practice, we wisely choose wisdom and compassion instead of three poisons above to gain a peaceful and happy life.

 

After the Dharma talk, the mass entered the penitential ritual as usual.
