On May 03rd, 2023 (March 14th, Year of the Cat), good men and believing women returned to Suoi Phap pagoda in Tay Ninh province (belonging to Hoang Phap pagoda ‘s custom) to attend the periodic penance rite.
Before the rite, Junior Thich Tam Huong, Abbot of Suoi Phap Pagoda had a dharma talk titled "Garbage in the mind”.
In this hustle and bustle living, whoever has stopped, looked back, and thought about life? Sometimes, we have too many calculations and thoughts, these thoughts are intermingled, sometimes we run after our own needs, run after fame and gain, worldly material things, which arise greed, hatred, delusion that is followed by attachment. Thus, these thoughts that make us worry, think a lot, and then, the mind is confused, afflicted, insecure and suffering.
The abbot explained clearly, garbage is a waste product, and all environmental pollutants need to be removed. Likewise, "mind garbage" is unwholesome thoughts: greed, hatred, delusion, jealousy, selfishness, and pride. Garbage outside pollutes the environment; the garbage inside makes our mind polluted, and defiled.
The ancient said: "Clean house is cool, clean bowl is delicious". Indeed, entering a clean, airy, orderly house, we will feel comfortable and joyful; or if the mind is filled with garbage: greed, anger, delusion, selfishness, etc., the mind will not be peaceful and happy. Therefore, all of us should use the Buddha's righteous Dharma to clean up the garbage in our minds, so that our minds can be peaceful and happy every day.
