REPENTANT CEREMONY

This time, a Dharma sharing was given by Ven. Thich Tam Do, a Hoang Phap’s monk, on the title of “The Buddha’s Inheritance”.

In the common thought, normal parents always spend their whole life, try to save a lot of money on their children. But some didn’t pay thankfulness to parent and waste all the money to meaningless things. For others, they don’t spend money in vain but it’s gone by other reasons as confiscated or plundered… For some reasons, the worldly property dissipated. In the Buddhist texts, the Buddha taught the worldly property is impermanent, easy to take out by these five things: firing, water sweeping away, robbed, confiscated, and by the family’s prodigals.

Then which property can’t be taken away by those five ways that we should save? There are seven types of property not under the management of impermanence, which mentioned in the Anguttara Nikāya III, chapter 7, Property Section, the Buddha said: there are seven noble treasures, they are: faith, morality, self-respect, respect for others, study, generosity, and discriminating wisdom.

Here, those who have faith in the Buddha’s wisdom or awakening, they have the treasure of faith.

Here, those who give up killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying and intoxication, they have the treasure of morality.

Here, those who have self-respect what has been done from body, speech, and mind, they have the treasure of self-respect.

Here, those who have fright making from body, speech, and mind, they have the treasure of respect for others.

Here, those who pay attention to dharma learning and keep well the rules for having the right view, they have the treasure of study.

Here, those who abandon greed, doing renouncement, giving, they have the treasure of giving.

Here, those who arise wisdom of raising and falling, fulfill the final wisdom, conduct to the right liberation, emancipate all defilement, they have the treasure of wisdom.

Monks, those who have these seven noble treasures, they are richer than others.

Finished the talk, people start the ceremony as usual.
