Repentant Ceremony April 18th, 2019

his time, the talk before the official ceremony was done by Ven. Thich Tam Luc on the title of “Love the Unlovable One”
The message he delivers is the category of hate and love. The unloveable person his deeds, speech, and thought are not appropriate to the moral norm. We normally get hard to love those people because we always think of ourselves first, so when they can’t be as we want, we dislike them.
In Anguttara Nikaya, the “Destroy Hatred” sutra, the Buddha said there are five ways to destroy our hatred when we contact those who are impure in thought, speech, and deeds. In other words, it’s the way to change ourselves when facing to the unlovable person.
1. Impurity in deeds but he has purity in speech.
2. Impurity in speech but he has purity in deeds
3. Impurity in deeds and speech but he has a good thought in sometimes, with the pure faith in mind sometimes.
4. Impurity in deeds and speech, and he has a bad thought in sometimes, but his mind with pure faith sometimes.
5. Purity in speech, deeds, and sometimes he has a good mind and pure faith.
What can we learn from this teaching? We are human, not saint, so we are all imperfect. Instead of finding other’s faults, seeing their good manner also. When we can see the good things from others, we decrease much unpleasantness in life and reduce a lot of suffering. There is no attachment, there is no suffering. This is the way of Bodhisattva.
“Instead of blaming, we understand for love
It’s the embodiment of bodhisattva”
For keeping a stable love we all need to set up a connection by listening, sharing, empathy… By this, we can spread our love to not only the good one but also the unlovable one.
Finished the talk, people start the repentant ceremony as usual.
