“The Sunset Period” – Dharm Talk in the 89th Seven-Day Retreat
Update: 08/09/2018
On Sep. 8th, 2018, Ven. Thich Tam Chanh, a Hoang Phap’s monk had a Talk giving to all the 89th Retreat practitioners on the title of “The Sunset Period”.
The Sunset Period is the age of over 60, and this period’s divided into three categories: biology aging, society aging, and character aging. When people getting old, they mostly face many difficulties of loneliness, diseases, forgetfulness, and mind always living in the past. But, they also have a lot of strengths from the tolerance, rich-experience for offspring teaching, and also can do useful things for the community.
What can we learn from the Talk? It’s an admonishment to those who got old, or already in, should open their heart for receiving the love from children and offspring, the care from them. And the most important is leading hard practice. We don’t have much time remain, so please treasure every second we have for practice, no matter reading, breathing, chanting, reciting, talking or working… all are in accordance with the Buddha’s teaching for our sunset period’s happiness and the happiness of new existences.
To finish, a poem written by Ven. Abbot Thich Chan Tinh about parent’s kindness was read to all the participants.
